Vancouver Public Schools will offer students the opportunity to take the SAT exam free of charge on a school day, Tuesday, April 12, as part of SAT School Day. The SAT is a the mostly widely used college entrance exam in the U.S.
Traditionally, the exam is given on a Saturday. Testing on a school day rather than on the weekend removes barriers to standard Saturday testing: lack of transportation, part-time jobs or family commitments. The three-and-a-half-hour exam tests students’ knowledge of math, reading and writing.
SAT fees can cost up to $65 per student. Removing the exam fee further lowers the financial barrier to taking the test.
Through March, about 2,000 Vancouver district juniors and seniors will register at their schools for the SAT. The exam will be administered at Columbia River, Fort Vancouver, Hudson’s Bay and Skyview high schools; Vancouver iTech Preparatory; Vancouver School of Arts and Academics; Vancouver Flex Academy and the Lieser campus.
