Free turkey hunting clinic scheduled in Vancouver

Registration is open for a free turkey hunting clinic scheduled at 6:30 p.m. March 29 at the Vancouver Trap Club, 11100 N.E. 76th St.

Twenty spots are available. To register, go online to http://wdfw.gov/hunting/huntered.clinics.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is hosting the clinic, one of five scheduled around the state. Department staff along with hunter education instructors, master hunters and members of the National Wildlife Turkey Federation will teach at the clinics.

The clinics will include demonstrations of turkey calling along with hunting tips. Participants will received booklets with information about species identification, biology, habitat, care of harvested turkeys and safety practices.

Spring turkey season is open statewide from April 15 through May 31. There is youth-only statewide season open on April 2 and 3.

State residents need a $40.50 small game license to hunt turkeys plus a $15.90 turkey tag. Youth (younger than 16) need an $18.50 small game license plus a 50-cent turkey tag.

Planned later this year in Washington are clinics for hunting deer, elk, waterfowl and upland birds.
