Weather Eye: Brace for rain, rain, more rain before we spring forward

Longer days and warmer temperatures are on the way, indicating spring fever will overcome most of us soon. Just not real soon. I’m afraid the forecast calls for rain, rain and more rain.

At least the nice thing about the month of March is, when we get those sunbreaks in between storms, it sure feels great. The rising height of the sun and longer hours of daylight all help to feel the warmth of the yellow orb in the sky.

What little wind we received with Saturday’s weather system made up for it with the storm Sunday evening. Wind gusts ranged from 30 to 45 mph around the area. It was blustery in the dark shroud of night.

Another round of rainy and blustery weather moves inland today with the sun lingering above the cloud shield. Another storm moves toward us on Wednesday with moderate to heavy rain. Snow levels stay low enough today for snow in the Cascades passes but turning to rain on Wednesday. Then showers take over Thursday and Friday. The weekend looks like a repeat of last weekend with rain and mountain snow. Certainly no “spring break” weather in the near future.

California has been benefiting from the recent storminess with lots of snow in the mountains and inches of rain elsewhere. Too little too late? Maybe, but every drop helps as far as they are concerned.

I haven’t noticed any yet, but several readers told me that they have witnessed mosquitos already and they are thirsty! Doesn’t surprise me with all the rain — lots of standing water in the countryside may mean an early attack with those pesky critters. The frogs are in seventh heaven singing their melodies loudly in the serenity of the darkness. Hopefully, they will spot the flying nuisances.

Lawns are greening up, and the flowering trees are in full blossom with some sending petals every which way in the breezes. OK, you knew it was coming, my annual spring verbiage: “Spring has sprung, the grass has ris’, I wonder where the birdies is?”

Keep dry as you dash through the puddles, and we will chat on Thursday.
