The county’s force of armored police dogs will grow by two, with Clark County Sheriff’s Office K-9s Ringo and Jango set to receive stab- and gunshot-resistant vests in the coming months.

The sheriff’s office said the vests will be acquired though Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., thanks to a fundraiser organized by Vancouver resident Aaron Tyger. Ringo is a 4-year-old German shepherd assigned to Deputy Seth Brennan. Jango is a 3-year-old German shepherd paired with Deputy Sean Boyle.

Ringo’s vest will be embroidered with the words “In loving memory of K9 Lucky,” and Jango’s with “In loving memory of K9 Kane.” In May 1990, Clark County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Lucky was killed in the line of duty, and K-9 Kane was killed in 2011.

The vests are expected to arrive within eight to 10 weeks.

During the past few months, several dogs around the county have received vests through Vested Interest, a Massachusetts-based nonprofit organization.
