University of Portland senior outfielder Caleb Whalen, a graduate of Union High School, is the West Coast Conference position Player of the Week after hitting .462 to help lead the Pilots to a series win over UC Riverside at Joe Etzel Field last weekend.

Whalen also had three doubles, a home run, four runs scored and five RBI, was a perfect 2-for-2 in steals and played a flawless center field.

Whalen saved perhaps his best performance for the third game of the series as he went 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBI as Portland claimed the series with a 4-3 win. In the fourth game, Whalen threw out a runner with a perfect throw to the plate from center field.
