Clam digging, cleaning lessons to be offered

LONG BEACH — Clam digging lessons will be offered on April 9 and 10 as part of the annual Razor Clam Festival in Long Beach.

Coastal experts will teach how to dig the tasty bivalves beginning at 7 a.m. on April 9 and 7:45 a.m. on April 10. Check-in is 15 minutes prior both days at the Bolstad Beach Approach pavilion in Long Beach.

Participants will need a state razor clam license, clam gun or shovel, a bucket or net and appropriate clothing.

Clam-cleaning lessons will follow from 9 to 10 a.m. April 9 and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. April 10.

Among the other events will be an amateur chowder competition at the Long Beach Elks from 11 a.m. to noon on April 9 plus a clam fritter cook-off and beer garden are from 3 to 5 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park.
