A training exercise by Clark County Fire District 6 generated a large plume of black smoke and prompted a flurry of calls to emergency dispatchers this afternoon.

The all-day exercise was scheduled to start about 9 a.m. in the 2900 block of Northeast 99th Street in Hazel Dell, but didn’t begin attracting attention until after noon. It is scheduled to conclude later today.
