Visiting composer works with Woodland music students

Woodland — Band students throughout Woodland Public Schools had a chance to learn from visiting composer Darryl Johnson II as part of his Meet the Composer event last month. Bryana Steck, Woodland’s band director, invited Johnson to the district to work with the Woodland Middle School Band, Woodland High School Concert Band and Woodland High School Percussive Ensemble. Johnson travels around the country visiting public schools, helping school bands learn to play his music and educating students about music composition. After working with Johnson, the students played a special concert for parents and community members.
