Vancouver – Fireworks will not be permitted on Vancouver Public Schools’ grounds and parking lots this summer due to fire risk and the presence of construction material and equipment at some schools.

This is the second year the district has prohibited fireworks on its properties. Increased security patrols will monitor activity “to help ensure safety at all of our schools,” Mick Hoffman, chief of operations, said.

The parking lot at Hudson’s Bay High School will be open on July 4 for those attending the celebration at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. However, setting off fireworks in the lot will be prohibited.
