The Portland State University football team has added another Clark County connection in Nathan Hawthorne.

On Monday, Portland State announced the transfer of Hawthorne, who graduated from Columbia River High School in 2015.

Last fall, Hawthorne walked on at the University of Oregon but did not play. He is expected to play wide receiver and on special teams in 2016.

At Columbia River, Hawthorne was a two-time first-team all-league selection at wide receiver and defensive back. He was The Columbian’s All-Region boys multi-sport athlete of the year in 2015.

Portland State football has many Clark County connections, starting with head coach and Vancouver native Bruce Barnum.

Camas grad John Norcross played in all 12 games last season as a sophomore linebacker. Isaac Ennis (Columbia River) and Glenn Wheary (Skyview) are redshirt freshmen on the offensive line.

Portland State is coming off one of its best seasons in school history. The Vikings beat FBS opponents Washington State and North Texas and received an at-large berth to the FCS playoffs, losing to Northern Iowa in the second round.

Portland State opens its 2016 season on Sept. 3 at home against Central Washington.
