A fire damaged the Curves health club Monday night in Battle Ground.

Firefighters were called to the Battle Ground Plaza, at 813 W. Main St., at about 7:30 and found smoke rising from Curves, Clark County Fire District 3 Chief Wrightson said. Firefighters had to break down the door to the business to get inside.

There, they found heavy smoke, he said, but they were able to knock down the fire. Smoke escaped the building through its ventilation system on the roof, leading firefighters to think it might have been an attic fire, Wrightson said, but the fire did not extend into the attic.

Firefighters remained on the scene for some time cleaning up.

Curves incurred fairly significant smoke damage, Wrightson said, and Old Town Burgers and Breakfast next door had some water damage. None of the other businesses in the complex seemed especially damaged, he said.

The fire marshal is investigating.
