Evergreen Habitat for Humanity announced Thursday that it would name a planned 10-home subdivision in Vancouver after founding board member and community leader John McKibbin. McKibbin was killed with passenger Irene Mustain on March 23 when his World War II-era plane plunged into the Columbia River near Astoria, Ore. He was 69.

The subdivision off Middle Way in Vancouver will be named McKibbin Commons to commemorate his legacy. McKibbin helped lay the foundation for the Vancouver-based affiliate of Habitat for Humanity. Evergreen Habitat for Humanity has worked to improve living conditions for low-income Clark County families since 1991, the nonprofit said in a news release. Homes are sold with a zero-percent interest-rate mortgage after families complete sweat-equity hours.

There will be a groundbreaking ceremony at 2 p.m. July 10 at Southeast Middle Way and 76th Court.
