Several dead kittens were found abandoned in a paper bag in Orchards on Thursday, but it’s unlikely officials will be able to figure out what happened, Clark County Animal Control manager Paul Scarpelli said.

Someone reportedly found the kittens on Northeast 71st Street, he said, off Northeast 117th Avenue and near the Lowe’s hardware store.

Scarpelli said the process by which word got from the person who first saw them, then to animal control, wasn’t clear, but he said the kittens were already dead when found.

An animal control officer responded, he said, and the animals were disposed of.

Scarpelli said the kittens appeared to be no more than a couple of weeks old.

It’s a sad situation, he said, but there weren’t many avenues to determine what happened. The cats might have been born dead.

“You just never know.”
