The Port of Ridgefield wants to bring high-speed dark fiber infrastructure to Ridgefield, and part of the plan to do that is to explain what exactly it is. The port will host a public information session from 6 to 8 p.m. June 28 at Old Liberty Theater, 115 N. Main Ave.

The session will cover the port’s fiber development project, and its significance to the Ridgefield community. It will also feature a panel discussion to explain what dark fiber is, why the port is undertaking the project, and why the project is important to Washington State University Vancouver and to private industry in the area.

So far, confirmed panel guests are Joe Poire, executive director of Port of Whitman County, which began building a fiber infrastructure 13 years ago, Michael Stamper, Washington State University Vancouver’s chief information officer, and Mike Bomar, president of Columbia River Economic Development Council.

To make sure seating is available, anyone interested in attending is asked to email wbaldwin@portridgefield.org or call 360-887-3873 by June 23.
