Weather Eye: Stronger cold front could bring more significant rainfall

Showers returned Monday afternoon as a weak cold front swung by the region. Another stronger one will bring more rain today, probably significant amounts compared to Monday.

Cold air aloft associated with this low will drop snow levels down to pass levels at times. The real accumulation will be above 5,000 feet with several inches possible. And this is mid-June?

We continue with unsettled weather the rest of the week with a possibility Father’s Day weekend won’t be too bad. Maybe a dry Sunday? The cold trough of low pressure over us today will wander around close enough to us for the next four or five days that we’ll still be within the “chance of showers” forecast.

This may be the pesky low that always appears around Rose Festival, albeit a little late. The showers we had Friday and early Saturday morning quickly moved off to the east. This system will wobble like a slow spinning top.

It seems rather funny to advise campers at the higher elevations this week to watch out for snow showers in the middle of June. So what? Our weather is crazy; we deal with it.

It is a good thing we had some nice warm weather earlier this month. Looking at some weather lore, one old saying says, “A cold and wet June spoils the rest of the year.” Boy, we sure don’t want that! But on the other hand, another goes like this: “A good rain in June sets all in tune.”
