Saturday was a big day in the Whalen house.
Brady Whalen, who just graduated from Union High School, and his older brother Caleb Whalen both were drafted in the third day of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player draft.
Brady Whalen, an infielder who has signed to play for the University of Oregon, was drafted in the 12th round by the St. Louis Cardinals.
Caleb Whalen, a Union graduate and University of Portland outfielder, was selected in the 38th round by the Milwaukee Brewers.
“I am very excited for the opportunity to play professional baseball with the Milwaukee Brewers,” Caleb Whalen said. “This is a dream come true and God has truly blessed me.”
Caleb Whalen finished his college career tied for first in program history with 14 career triples, and he’s second all-time in games played with 207. He hit .304 this season with five home runs and 24 RBIs.
Washington State junior and Skyview graduate Ian Hamilton was the first Clark County player drafted on Saturday when he was taken in the 11th round by the Chicago White Sox.
A three time All-Pac-12 Conference selection, Hamilton led the Cougars with 62 strikeouts, 87 innings pitched in 15 starts.

• Dakody Clemmer, Mountain View HS/Central Arizona College, 19th round by the Cleveland Indians.
• Michael McCann, Columbia River HS/Seattle University, 24th round by the Kansas City Royals.
• Tyler Hallead, Camas HS/College of Southern Nevada, 24th round by the Philadelphia Phillies.
• Rian Bassett, Columbia River HS/Clark College, 28th round by the Chicago Cubs.
