East Vancouver — Three Evergreen School District elementary students were chosen for the 2016 AAA Safety Patrol Hall of Fame and invited to Safeco Field to attend a Seattle Mariners game on May 14, where they were honored on the field. Robert Flach of Harmony Elementary School, Colby Majewski of Image Elementary School and Aderyn McLean of Riverview Elementary School were among the 10 honorees picked statewide out of nearly 50 nominees.

According to a news release from AAA, a panel of judges from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the state Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction and the Washington Traffic Safety Commission evaluate students based on commitment to traffic safety, citizenship, leadership skills and contributions to school safety patrol programs.

Nominations require input from the patroller and his or her adviser, including responses to essay questions.
