Four middle school bands from Clark County earned honors Wednesday in the 2016 Fred Meyer Junior Parade, part of the Portland Rose Festival.

The sweepstakes award ended in a tie, with Pleasant Valley Middle School in the Battle Ground school district sharing the win with Meadow Park Middle School in Beaverton, Ore.

In the Open Class division for bands with 100 or more members, Clark County schools cleaned up. Pleasant Valley nabbed first place; Cascade Middle School, in the Evergreen school district, took second place; and Covington Middle School, also in the Evergreen district, placed third.

In the A Class division for bands with 99 members or fewer, first place went to Tukes Valley Middle School in the Battle Ground district.

The junior parade, part of the Rose Festival since 1936, is the oldest children’s parade in the country, according to the festival’s website. Learn more at www.rosefestival.org.
