Two adults and two pets were displaced after a fire destroyed a house north of Yacolt early Tuesday morning.

Firefighters from Clark County Fire District 13, District 3 and District 10 all responded to a blaze at 26335 N.E. Gillette Road just after 5 a.m., Clark County Fire District 13 Division Chief Shaun Ford said.

All of the occupants and animals were out of the house by the time firefighters arrived.

Fire had consumed so much of the structure, Ford said, that firefighters stayed outside and attacked the flames with hoses. It took crews about an hour to get the blaze under control, but the house was destroyed, Ford said.

The house was a log cabin-style home that was combined with a manufactured home to create one structure with the same roof, Ford said.

Crews stayed on scene for more than seven hours to put out all the hot spots and to do overhaul. Family of the homeowners assisted fire crews by using a mini-excavator to dig trenches and perform overhaul.

Clark County Deputy Fire Marshal Curtis Eavenson said the fire originated in the attic, but that he hadn’t yet determined what caused the blaze. He said the house was burned down to the frame, causing an estimated $200,000 in damage to the structure and contents.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross responded to the scene to provide immediate basic care including housing, food, clothing, comfort kits and information about recovery services.
