A man who served jail time for crashing a stolen pickup into the front door of a Camas house in June 2015 was back in court Monday morning, accused in another hit-and-run.

Shayn M. Kaz, 28, of Vancouver appeared in Clark County Superior Court on suspicion of second-degree malicious mischief, third-degree driving with a suspended or revoked license and hit-and-run stemming from the May 31 crash in Washougal.

Kaz was sentenced in August to six months in the Clark County Jail after pleading guilty to hit-and-run, driving under the influence and first-degree malicious mischief.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Washougal police were dispatched to a residence at 3380 K St. for a report of a hit-and-run on a vehicle. Upon arrival, police observed extensive front-end damage, and the vehicle was sitting sideways in an “unnatural position” on a narrow driveway.

The owner of the damaged vehicle, Jodie La Fleur, told police that a man, later identified by police as Kaz, became angry when she threatened to call police on him, because she believed the vehicle he was driving was stolen. She said Kaz purposely drove his Dodge Durango into her GMC SUV while she was inside it, attempting to move it backward out of his way, the affidavit said. He then fled the scene.

Police recognized the suspect as Kaz from a cellphone photo that La Fleur took of him before the collision. She also took a photo of the Dodge Durango’s license plate. The vehicle is registered to Kaz, court records said.

The victim estimated the damage to her SUV to be about $1,200, according to court documents. A second witness corroborated La Fleur’s statement to police.

Kaz allegedly admitted to police that he was involved in a collision, but said he was only trying to leave and La Fleur drove into him, court records said.

On Monday, Judge Bernard Veljacic appointed Kaz a defense attorney and set his bail at $10,000.

Kaz will be arraigned June 16.
