A 13-year-old girl escaped abduction after a group of men tried to pull her inside a vehicle Sunday evening.

Three 13-year-old girls were standing outside Burton Market, 8601 N.E. Burton Road, at about 6 p.m. Sunday when a red GMC sport-utility vehicle pulled into the parking lot, Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said.

Four or five men were inside the vehicle, and two of the men entered the store, Kapp said. The men began to stare and whistle at the girls, who decided to walk home, Kapp said.

The girls traveled east on Burton Road. When they arrived at 92nd Avenue, the same SUV pulled up next to them and a male reached out from the rear passenger seat and grabbed the arm of one of the girls, Kapp said.

The girl was able to wrestle herself loose, Kapp said. The girls ran home, where they notified police, she said.

Officers canvassed the area, but couldn’t find the vehicle or suspects who matched the description.

Kapp said that the girls did exactly what they are supposed to do.
