Hough — Phase 5 of Hough Elementary School’s Our Backyard Field Trip project is done.

The project brings together students, staff and community members to develop the school’s yard into an area for learning, relaxing and physical activities. Phase 5 was the building of the Alphabet Garden, which contains different grasses, two garden boxes, alphabet tiles and benches outside the kindergarten classroom.

Fifty volunteers worked 125 hours to create the space, a place meant for quiet time and hands-on learning, a place where students can grow their own tomatoes, beans and sunflowers.

A Vancouver Watersheds Alliance grant and donations from Yogurt Time and Hough supporters funded the project.
