An additional $47,6161 in federal rental assistance funding through the U.S. Department of Housing and the Department of Veterans Affairs will help house eight homeless veterans in Vancouver.

Throughout Washington, the federal departments are awarding $964,236 in annual rental assistance for 142 homeless veterans.

The additional funding announced Thursday brings the state’s total number of Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing program vouchers up to 2,609 from 2,467.

Through the program, often referred to as HUD-VASH, local veterans are referred to Vancouver Housing Authority, and voucher recipients get rental assistance, case management and clinical services at the Vancouver Veterans Affairs campus.
