Five Corners — Students at Covington Middle School were asked to come up with an ad for a healthy breakfast, and the winners and runners up were treated to a private breakfast from Rene Huerta, a food sense educator at Washington State University Extension. The winners of the “Create An Ad for School Breakfast” competition were Avelinna Sabadash, Lindsey Holmgren and Eva Taylor, and the runners up were Evilyn Basdrab, Daniel Postoronka and Aiden Brady. The School Nutrition Association sponsors the annual competition for sixth- and seventh-graders promoting healthful eating awareness and habits, and the winning ads were submitted to the national competition. Besides the private breakfast, each winning student received an awards bag containing magnets, a water bottle and other goodies.
