Police and fire officials are investigating a car fire that they determined to be arson.

Several 911 callers reported an explosion in the area of the Sir James Apartments, 11022 N.E. 18th St., about 4:10 a.m., according to Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp.

Police and fire personnel responded and located the unoccupied car on fire in the parking lot of the apartment complex, Kapp said. Someone at the scene doused the blaze prior to firefighters arriving, Vancouver Fire Department Spokesman Pete Adams said. The damage to the vehicle was isolated to the front fender and hood area, he said.

Vancouver police arson detectives and the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating.
