Hazel Dell Metro locks up semifinal spot

CAMAS — Alex Brady pitched a complete-game four-hitter while striking out 14 batters as Hazel Dell Metro clinched a spot in Sunday’s semifinals with a 9-2 win over Riverton, Wyo., on Friday in the Babe Ruth Baseball 15-year-olds Pacific Northwest Regional at Louis Bloch Park.

Jake Childers went 3 for 4, Jasper Rank was 2 for 4 with two RBI, Jake Rumble was 2 for 2 with an RBI, and Brady helped himself out with a hit and two RBI.

Sam Lauderdale had a hit and an RBI, and Eastyn Culp had a hit for HDM.

Brady walked one batter and didn’t give up a hit until the fifth inning. Wyoming’s Peyton Rees broke up the no-hitter and was 2 for 3 with an RBI.

HDM and Kelso are tied for the top two spots in the National Division pool, both 3-0. They face off at 4 p.m. today in the final pool-play game. The result will determine which semifinal each will play in on Sunday.

The HDM-Kelso winner will play in the 1 p.m. semifinal on Sunday, while the loser will play in the 10 a.m. semifinal.

The championship to send the winner to the Babe Ruth World Series for 15-year-olds is scheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday.

The World Series will be held Aug. 13-20 in Williston, N.D.

Glacier 13, Camas-Washougal 2 — The host team suffered its first defeat as the team from Montana pulled into a second-place tie with Camas-Washougal in the American Division pool, both at 2-1.

Preston Thornton, Noah Merino and Jacob Trupp each had a double, and Cameron Ford singled for Camas-Washougal.

A win by Glacier today against Calgary (1-2) would likely put Glacier in Sunday’s semifinal. Camas-Washougal finishes pool play at 7 p.m. today against pool leader Ephrata (3-0).
