A Seattle woman was knocked unconscious and hospitalized after diving from the cliffs at Lower Lewis River Falls on Friday afternoon.

Emergency responders received a report of an injured swimmer at Lower Falls Campground, about 32 miles east of Cougar in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, around 2:45 p.m., according to the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office.

Tatiyana Winge, 18, and four friends had been shooting video of each other jumping from the cliffs, about 45 feet up, into the pool below, the sheriff’s office said.

Winge jumped and landed feet first, but was still knocked unconscious.

Two swimmers, who weren’t in her group, saw what happened and swam over to grab Winge, who was floating facedown in the water.

Mike Campbell, an off-duty firefighter from Grant County, and William Buck, a California man retired from the Army, rendered first aid until help arrived.

Sheriff’s deputies, North County EMS and the Volcano Rescue Team responded, and pulled Winge from the base of the falls to the campground.

An ambulance took her to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, according to the sheriff’s office.
