Elks lodge hosts Flag Day ceremony, picnic

Lincoln — Vancouver Elks Lodge No. 823 hosted a Flag Day ceremony on June 11 at Kiggins Bowl, 800 E. 40th St., Vancouver.

Leslie Burger, a retired major general who spent 33 years in the Army Medical Corps, was the guest speaker. The ceremony also included the presentation of the colors, patriotic music and history of the flag.

The lodge also hosted its 75th Annual Elks School Patrol Picnic on June 7 at Oaks Amusement Park. More than 2,000 School Patrol students from Vancouver, Ridgefield and Woodland served hot dogs, pop and ice cream bars.

There were also 21 Elk members and 23 homework and teacher helper volunteers at the picnic.
