The Battle Ground City Council appointed two new councilors at Monday’s meeting.

Brian Munson was appointed to vacant Position No. 1 and Cherish DesRochers was appointed as pro tem to Position No. 6. They were two of the five candidates for the vacant councilor position after Lyle Lamb resigned as of June 1 to take a new job in another state.

Munson will serve the duration of Position No. 1’s term, which ends December 2017. He was most recently chairman of the city’s planning commission.

DesRochers will fill in at Position No. 6 for Bill Ganley, who is on extended leave. Ganley, a councilor since 1993, has had several excused absences from meetings in recent months and informed the council he was taking an extended leave, said Bonnie Gilberti, city spokeswoman. No reason was given for Ganley’s leave.

DesRochers was also on the city’s planning commission prior to her appointment. She will serve in Position No. 6 until Ganley returns or until his term expires in December 2017.

Munson and DesRochers will give up their positions on the planning commission. No timetable is in place to choose their successors, although the city is always accepting positions for the planning commission. Eligibility requirements and an application form can be found on the city’s website, www.cityofbg.org.
