A fire heavily damaged an Orchards home Friday early evening.

The fire was reported around 5:30 p.m. at 7817 N.E. 128th Ave., near Heritage High School.

Firefighters arrived shortly after and found a working fire coming from the home’s garage. A large column of smoke could be seen coming from the fire.

The fire was mostly under control after about 15 minutes, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian, but it apparently extended into the small home’s attic space, and all but destroyed the garage.

Two adults and two pets were displaced. They received assistance from volunteers with the American Red Cross.
