Four boating safety classes scheduled July 23

Registration is open for four boating safety classes on July 23 in Vancouver.

A basic boating safety class will be offered by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, U.S. Power Squadron and Clark County Marine Patrol from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. at the Clark County Public Works Maintenance and Operations Conference Center, 4700 N.E. 78th St. Room B-1.

The class will cost $10 per person. The class is designed to prepare boaters to earn their Washington or Oregon boater safety card.

A class about VHF marine radio will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the same location. It too will cost $10 per boater.

A class about reading nautical charts is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. and also will cost $10.

The fourth class will cover boat and trailer maintenance and is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, 2108 Grand Blvd.

The cost will be $20.

Topics will include outboard motor engine oil and filter changes, lower unit oil changes, propellers, electrical maintenance, wheel bearings, trailer tires and more.
