Volunteer Connections provides opportunities through the Human Services Council.

• Clark County Genealogical Society is looking for volunteers to help staff its library. Experienced librarians will provide training. An interest in genealogy and desire to help people learn about the history of their families is required.

• Columbia River Mental Health needs a garden manager to help oversee the community garden, assist gardeners with purchasing garden plots, check in on gardeners throughout the season and assist facilities personnel with other garden tasks. Help in the office with filing, packet creation, data entry and phone calls is also needed.

• Daybreak Youth Services is looking for a volunteer to assist the office manager with filing, copying, and phone calls.

• Innovative Services NW seeks front desk help on Saturdays and from 6 to 8 p.m. each evening, to check families in and out.

• Juvenile Rehabilitation Administration – Region 3 is in need of trusted mentors to call, visit and write letters to youth in the juvenile justice system as often as possible.

An intern also is needed to create and utilize presentations for the mentor program, recruit volunteers, create flyers, pursue grant and donation opportunities, and help maintain the database, and other duties as needed.

• Kaiser Permanente Hospice seeks volunteers for in-home and facility settings to provide routine companionship and respite care. Phone volunteers are also needed to check in on families.

The Washington Reading Corps AmeriCorps is looking for people passionate about literacy to work with kids in elementary schools. Positions are open in the Evergreen Public Schools and Vancouver Public Schools. For information and a list of openings, go to https://washingtonservicecorps.org

Reading Corps members must be 18 or older and commit to 10 1/2 months of community service through AmeriCorps. In return, they receive a modest living allowance, health insurance, training and an educational scholarship. Eligible members with children also can receive help with child care.

The Clark County council seeks applicants for a low-income representative opening on the Community Action Advisory Board for a position ending Dec. 31, 2018. The opening is for District 2, roughly east of Interstate 205 between Northeast 18th and 99th streets, and east of Northeast 164th Avenue from Northeast 159th Street to the Columbia River.

Reasonable expenses such as childcare costs or transportation may be reimbursable for this position.

The nine-member board makes recommendations regarding funding for basic and essential housing, health and safety needs.
