RIDGEFIELD – The Fort Vancouver Antique Equipment Association will hold its Rural Heritage Fair on Saturday and Sunday.

The 22nd annual event will be at Alan Schurman’s Iron Ranch, 23100 N.E. 10th Ave. in Ridgefield.

It is free and open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The Rural Heritage Fair celebrates rural living and the history of agriculture, logging and industrial mechanization in Clark County starting in the late 1800s. There will be live demonstrations in the blacksmith’s shop. Equipment powered by a steam boiler will include a logging “donkey,” a saw and an engine that powered a sawmill in Baker City, Ore.

There also will be displays of engine-powered machines used to churn ice cream, grind corn, pump water and wash clothes before electricity came to rural Clark County.

A pioneer village will give children hands-on opportunities to perform tasks such as splitting cedar shakes, churning butter and making quilts.
