A barn north of Dollars Corner was destroyed in a fire Tuesday morning, according to fire officials.

Crews from Clark County Fire & Rescue were called to 6804 N.E. 255th St. at about 11:20 a.m. for a reported blaze and arrived to find a 25-by-25-foot barn completely engulfed in flames, fire agency spokesman Tim Dawdy said.

Firefighters from Clark County Fire District 3 and the Vancouver Fire Department assisted at the scene, and crews got the fire under control in about 10 minutes, Dawdy said.

Clark County Deputy Fire Marshal Dan Young said the fire was unintentionally started by the property owner, who had been burning weeds near the barn about 20 minutes before the call came in.

Though the man thought the fire had gone out, it had not; flames spread to the barn, Young said. He estimated the damage at about $20,000.

Young reminded residents that a residential burn ban goes into effect on Friday.
