REDMOND — Gov. Jay Inslee, right, spoke on Wednesday to more than 1,500 at the Muslim Association of Puget Sound mosque in Redmond at a prayer service to mark the end of Ramadan and the first day of Eid-al-Fitr. At an event also attended by Redmond Mayor John Marchione, center, Inslee praised association president Mahmood Khadir, left, for his condemnation of terrorist acts in the name of Islam, and Khadir thanked Inslee for his support of the community, especially in light of threats the mosque received following the attacks at an Orlando, Fla., night club. Following the Wednesday event, which was overseen by private security officers, an outdoor festival at a park was planned to further celebrate the beginning of Eid-al-Fitr, which marks the end of fasting for Ramadan.
