The Union girls basketball team shone bright on a starless night.
No individual overshadowed the Titans’ 50-40 win over Mountain View on Friday.
Union’s leading scorer had just 10 points, but 10 different players scored. The Titans played tough defense and hit free throws to pull away in the fourth quarter.
“It was a true team effort, especially on defense,” Union coach Gary Mills said. “We lost last time we faced them and we didn’t like the way we played. The girls wanted to get some of their honor back.”
Union (9-9. 5-6) pulled within a half game of third-place Mountain View (11-7, 5-5) in the 4A Greater St. Helens League. The Titans have one league game left and the Thunder have two.
Union did not allow a field goal in the fourth quarter, which began tied at 34.
