Police say someone may have tampered with the wiring of a house in the Lincoln neighborhood, causing a small fire.

Officers from the Vancouver Police Department were called to do a premise check at a vacant home, 4101 Rose St. at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday and found smoke in the garage, agency spokeswoman Kim Kapp said.

The officer called for fire officials, and firefighters with the Vancouver Fire Department responded and extinguished the small fire, Kapp said.

Further investigation indicated that a suspect may have been removing copper wiring from the wall of the garage and then attempted to burn the plastic covering around the metal, Kapp said.

No suspects were located.

The fire did not cause significant damage to the residence, Kapp said, and an investigator from the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office was called to the scene.
