Boys basketball: Evergreen 66, Skyview 59

Tyrus Hosley scored 21 points, Greg Washington 19 and the Plainsmen used solid defense to beat visiting Skyview and maintain second place in the 4A GSHL.

Hosley made two 3-pointers, shot 5 of 8 from the free-throw line to go with 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Washington had three 3s plus five rebounds and two assists.

Evergreen led 33-25 at halftime, and Skyview came back to tie the game early in the third quarter thanks to part to the play of Mason Scheidel, who finished with a game-high 28 points.

Scheidel also had 14 rebounds.

Evergreen coach Brian Witherspoon said the Plainsmen were able to get back their lead with “hard defense.”

Skyview missed two shots in the final 20 seconds and had to foul.

“Skyview came to play tonight,” he said. “We are both playing for a higher (seed), and our guys played together.”
