The Columbia River Dancers will be dancing from 7 to 10 tonight at Hazel Dell Grange No. 1124, 7509 N.E. Hazel Dell Ave., Vancouver. All are welcome as caller Mark Wheeler as Elvis leads the dance with cuer Debbie Combs. The Clark College Jazz Festival kicks off Thursday, with middle school jazz ensembles from Washington and Oregon competing from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 28, followed by high school divisions competing from 8:40 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 29, and 7:40 a.m. to 9 p.m. Jan. 30. There will be an exhibition performance by the award-winning American Music Program, led by Thara Memory, at 5:40 p.m. Jan. 30. Last year’s sweepstakes winners, Mountain View High School Jazz, will perform at 8:30 p.m. Jan. 30. Finals competitions will begin at 4 p.m. Jan. 28 and 7 p.m. Jan. 29 and 30, with trophies presented at the end of each at Clark College, 1933 Fort Vancouver Way, Vancouver. Venersborg School, 24309 N.E. 209th St., Battle Ground, will host a Seed Swap and Giveaway from 1 to 4 p.m. Jan. 31. Gardeners will bring local seeds saved from last year’s harvest to swap and share during this community event. Discover flowers, vegetables, herbs, bulbs and heirloom seeds. Clark Public Utilities sponsors a Race for Warmth to benefit its Operation Warm Heart program, which helps limited-income families with their electric bills. The event features a 10K run and 5K walk/run through downtown Vancouver and along the waterfront, along with a free kids race. Day-of-race registration opens at 7 a.m. Jan. 31, with the kids run beginning at 8:30 a.m., at Clark Public Utilities, 1200 Fort Vancouver Way, Vancouver. “Cafe du Monde,” the third part in the Encore Concert Series, featuring Thomas Rheingans and his ensemble, will offer up some love and blues. This show is inspired by the famous cafe in the French Quarter of New Orleans, with a diverse mix of ragtime, blues, jazz and the music of Louie Moreau Gottschalk. Friends of Fort Vancouver will put on the annual Fort Vancouver Sweetheart Dance, as participants can swing to the big band sound from 7 to 10 p.m. Feb. 13 in the historic hanger at Pearson Air Museum, 1115 E. Fifth St., Vancouver. Like USO dances during the 1940s, there will be live music by Beacock’s Swing Band, light refreshments and a no-host bar. Period costumes are encouraged.
