Fire officials field calls about safety company

Vancouver residents have mistaken a group of salespeople with a home security and fire safety company as affiliated with the Vancouver Fire Department.

Vancouver Fire Marshal Heidi Scarpelli said the department has received several calls from residents who have encountered salespeople from Red Safety, a security company that also offers fire safety products and services.

People reported that the salespeople were wearing clothing similar to clothes worn by members of the fire department, and that they alluded to connections with the department while trying to make their sales.

Scarpelli said the company is not affiliated with the department, the fire marshal’s office or city of Vancouver.

The company’s website says it’s based in Tukwila.

Scarpelli said that the fire department offers free home fire safety inspections, and will help mount smoke detectors for free as well.

For more information on free inspections or smoke detector installation, contact 360-487-7219 or vanfmo@cityofvancouver.us.
