Walnut Grove — Alison and Mike Day woke from a loud boom shortly before Christmas in their Kelso home, and saw their backyard sliding down a hill in heavy rain.

The two run a shelter our of their home, and were able to get themselves and their seven cats out of the house safely.

The house wasn’t as lucky, and was a total loss. The Day family was told to evacuate, and they relocated to a rental home in Vancouver, but couldn’t take in all of their cats from the Isle of Day Cat Sanctuary. The cats ended up at Furry Friends, a Vancouver-based no-kill shelter, and all seven of them have since found new homes.
