When the full-court press wasn’t working, the Skyview boys basketball team ditched it. The result was a 54-49 win over Evergreen on Wednesday.
“The press is something we rely on,” Skyview coach Matt Gruhler said. “And we thought since they were coming off a game last night, we thought that trying to speed things up would help us. But give them credit, they made a lot of plays in the open court.
“We called a timeout, made an adjustment and turned it into more of a half-court game.”
Jason Chaney had 14 points and eight rebounds to lead Skyview. Mason Scheidel and Skyler Martin each added 12 points.
“Jovon Sewell did a good job defending their guards,” Gruhler said. “They made only 5 of 18 3-pointers.”
Greg Washington paced Evergreen with 18 points.
