The Vancouver Police Department’s investigation into what happened leading up to when a Battle Ground Police patrol car struck a pedestrian Dec. 31 was still underway Thursday.

Vancouver Police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said investigators with the department’s traffic team were still interviewing witnesses. They have at least one more person to talk to and intend to wrap up the investigation next week, she said.

The officer struck the pedestrian — a 7-year-old boy, Kapp said — that afternoon around the 1700 block of West Main Street in Battle Ground. The boy received injuries that were not life-threatening and was taken to a hospital.

Battle Ground Police Department spokeswoman Bonnie Gilberti said the officer, Clint Fraser, remains on duty.

Investigating the crash fell to the Vancouver Police Department’s traffic unit.

Kapp said the New Year holiday appeared to put several of the witnesses out of investigators’ reach for a time, slowing things down some.
