The Hudson’s Bay boys basketball team won’t dwell on letting a large halftime lead slip away Thursday.
Rather, the Eagles will remember they were good enough in the final minute of a 66-64 win over R.A. Long.
Hudson’s Bay led 51-33 at halftime only to see the visiting Lumberjacks storm back. R.A. Long took a 64-63 lead with 90 seconds to play.
But Marco Cadiz scored off a loose ball to put Bay back in front 65-64.
After R.A. Long missed a shot, Quadrese Teague made one of two free throws with seven seconds left. R.A. Long’s 3-pointer at the buzzer was off target.
Bay went 0-19 last season. With Thursday’s win, the Eagles are 5-7 overall and 2-2 in the 2A Greater St. Helens League.
“It has been very cool to see these kids learn and develop,” Bay assistant coach Dan Larson said. “But it’s a lot more fun to learn when you’re winning.”
Teague finished with 23 points and eight rebounds. Quentin Raynor added 16 points.
Marcus Maryott scored 24 points to lead R.A. Long (5-6, 1-2).
