The Frankston Blues of Australia came from Down Under to make shots from downtown and fend off the Plainsmen.
The Blues, from a suburb of the national capital Melbourne in Victoria state, connected 10 times from 3-point range, seven of them in the third quarter — one a half-court shot at the period buzzer — to overcome a 28-27 halftime deficit and take control.
Evergreen remained within striking distance, eventually behind 61-58 with possession in the final minute before a turnover ended its hopes and the Blues hit a digger three at the other end.
“Our kids stepped up to the challenge,” Evergreen coach Jay Foreman said. “We just could not overcome that three-point barrage. They hit threes like out of this world. It was crazy.”
