The Columbia River Gorge offers some of best vistas in the Pacific Northwest. Now people around the country will get to see it when they open their mailboxes.

The Gorge was selected as one of the U.S. Postal Service’s 2016 stamp releases. But consumers likely won’t see it too often. At $22.95 each, it’s not a stamp made for your average letter.

“It’s a Priority Mail Express stamp, which is our premier service,” said USPS spokesperson Peter Hass. “It’s for overnight delivery guaranteed between major metro areas.”

Illustrator Dan Cosgrove worked with longtime Postal Service art director Phil Jordan of Falls Church, Va., to create the design. The digital illustration shows an east-facing view of the Gorge from the Oregon side of the river at sunset. The scene includes the forested shores of the river, as well as the historic Vista House atop Crown Point, with Beacon Rock just behind it.

Also included in this year’s stamp releases are “Star Trek,” NASA’s New Horizons space probe, jazz singer Sarah Vaughan and many other popular icons.

“Our stamps articulate the American experience through miniature works of art,” acting Stamp Services Director Mary-Anne Penner said in a press release.
