Week 4 winter sports prep athlete of the week nominees

Weekly vote, sponsored by Athletes Corner, continues through Thursday

Here are the nominees for The Columbian winter sports prep athlete of the week, sponsored by Athletes Corner, for the week ending Jan. 2.

Voting will continue until 8 p.m. Thursday, with results announced in Friday’s edition of The Columbian.

CHERITA DAUGHERTY, PRAIRIE GIRLS BASKETBALL: Daugherty was picked for the all-tournament team at the Phoenix Cactus Jam after getting 17 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists in the title game.

JACOB HJORT, COLUMBIA RIVER BOYS BASKETBALL: Hjort averaged almost 15 points a game in helpin the Chieftains place third at the Centennial New Years Bash in Caldwell, Idaho.

HALEY HORROCKS, SKYVIEW GIRLS WRESTLING: Horrocks was the runner-up finisher at 170 pounds at the Hammerhead Invitational in Bremerton

JAX PURWINS, CAMAS GYMNASTICS: Purwins won the all-around with a score of 35.35 in a multi-team meet at Naydenov

TOMMY STRASSENBERG, UNION BOYS WRESTLING: Strassenberg won the 160-pound division at the Pacific Coast Championships with a sudden-death win, lifting Union to the team title.
