The number of arrests made this New Year’s weekend on Clark County highways was down 20 percent when compared to the previous year, a statistic the Washington State Patrol is attributing to increased public awareness.
The time period for arrests covers Dec. 31 through Sunday. As in previous years, the state patrol increased the number of troopers patrolling during the holiday weekend. This year, they encountered fewer drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
“Our message is getting out there,” Trooper Will Finn said Sunday.
Troopers responded to two DUI-related vehicle crashes this New Year’s weekend — the same number as last year. Finn noted that neither of this year’s DUI crashes involved a fatality or a vehicular assault.
Finn did not provide the number of DUI arrests made this New Year’s weekend.
