A Washougal man who struck two law enforcement officers with a vehicle in two separate incidents was sentenced Friday to nearly four years in prison.

Isaiah Richey, 24, who also goes by the name Isaiah Oviatt, previously pleaded guilty in Clark County Superior Court to attempted second-degree assault in each case.

A co-defendant, David J. Stitzel, 26, a passenger in the vehicle, was previously sentenced to 17 months in prison.

On Oct. 5, two Clark County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked at 1105 N.E. Blair Road, near Washougal. When they arrived, they found a green Subaru parked in an overgrown driveway, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The deputies approached the vehicle, which was occupied by Richey and Stitzel, the affidavit said. The two initially cooperated by showing their identification, but Richey, the driver, grabbed the keys and started the car, court records said.

Richey put the car in reverse, causing the open passenger door to hit one of the deputies. The deputy was knocked into blackberry bushes but was not seriously injured.

In the other case, Richey struck a Washougal police officer in the right thigh, causing a bruise, while fleeing a Washougal store parking lot on Sept. 13, court records show.

Judge Derek Vanderwood sentenced Richey to a total of 47.25 months between the two cases.
