Arnada Neighborhood — Instead of flowers or cards, employees and volunteers of the National Women’s Coalition Against Violence and Exploitation were gifted with 2,100 new and gently used bras as part of their The Gift of Lift program.
Since its inception in 2011, The Gift of Lift program has collected more than 10,000 bras to distribute to local, national, and international organizations benefiting women and girls.
Donations have gone to as nearby locations as YWCA Clark County and Second Step Housing, to as far away as Haiti, Africa, South America and India. The Gift of Lift also partners with local plastic surgeons to provide bras for post-surgery and breast-prosthesis support. In addition to its Valentine’s Day event, The Gift of Lift recently announced it had received a three-year grant from Macy’s.
This partnership was signified with a $5,000 donation, as well as placement of a Gift of Lift donation box in its intimate apparel section. “Macy’s is the first national business to join our collection site partner list for the Gift of Lift program,” said Michelle Bart, president of NWCAVE, in a press release about the partnership. “We hope this new site will prove successful, so Macy’s will allow the program in their other stores.”
